I Can See Clearly Now

I got my contact for my right eye, again, and this one finally works! It's such a thrilling sensation, and quite a relief, to finally be able to see without spectacles. Well, to see without spectacles with frames at least. Now the only issue is the left eye, which I don't believe is actually a problem, since I've had that particular lens now for almost three months. And to be honest, it's probably just old. So now, here I am, finally with the ability to use contacts that seem to work perfectly, and it only took 8 months. We could have almost had another baby by now. Now the only question is whether I'll have my prescription filled by the time I leave for Disneyland. I'm hopeful.

I have a news story to share that you may or may not have seen. But it's hilarious to me, so here you be.

Police: Naked boy, 14, on walk with dog, pushes woman, breaks phone

Thursday, March 19, 2009

A 14-year-old Saginaw boy has been charged with strong-arm robbery and assault in juvenile court after he pushed a woman and broke her cell phone while taking a walk naked with a large white poodle in Hart Township Monday, police say.

Lt. Craig Mast of the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office said a 14-year-old youth walked away from a youth behavioral treatment facility Monday morning, stripped down, and was with a “giant” white poodle when he approached a woman working in her yard just after 11:30 a.m. Monday in the area of Oceana Drive and Lake Road.

“The young naked man approached her with this poodle, and she immediately realized something peculiar,” Mast said.

When the woman asked the boy if he was all right, he told her some statements that didn’t make much sense, Mast said. The boy said his mother had kicked him out of her home in the Saginaw area.

When the woman, 53, of Hart Township, got out her cell phone to call for help for the boy, he assaulted her, pushing her in the upper chest, and took her phone. He fled the scene and broke the phone in half, the sheriff’s office stated.

The woman went to a neighbor’s house and called 911.

Deputies responded to the victim and shortly afterwards they located the boy near Oceana Drive and Lake Road in Hart Township near the American Legion Hall.

Mast said when dispatch gave information about the boy, deputies had an idea of who they were looking for because he had showed up naked along a roadway a few days earlier. He was picked up by a reserve officer and brought back to the placement facility after that incident.

He was taken into protective custody Monday and has since been moved to a more secure facility out of the area.

The boy is being charged with strong-arm robbery and assault and battery as a juvenile through the 10th Circuit Court in Saginaw.

Mast said because the boy is a juvenile he is referred back to his jurisdiction of residence, which is where the incident for his original charges occurred.

The name of the suspect and past charges were not released.

Me again! So how awesome is that quote, "The young naked man approached her with this poodle, and she immediately realized something peculiar."? How great is that? I think I'm going to put that one on a T-shirt.

Not Sure

Practice number 3 was successful tonight. But it's fairly obvious to me that we'll need more. But luckily there are no scores in the wonderful world of T-ball. So the worry level isn't very high. But it would be nice to get more time with the kids so they won't be completely lost when the game starts. Most of them do know which base to run to first, so that's something. In other news, my daughter is pretty good at kicking a moving ball. So, if there's a 3 and under kickball tournament anywhere that you know about, lemme know 'cause she's going in. My wife is thrilled that she's taken to kicking a ball like this as she says that she can play soccer now. Now I won't tell you all my reasons, but soccer isn't really a sport, so I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm glad that she's good at kicking and if she does play next year she should come home from the games good and tired, as when they're that little, I'd imagine that each kid just chases the ball around the field for 30 minutes or so and then they get their little orange slices and fall asleep in the car on the way home. And that is something that I'm all for. It's the same reason that I have my team run the bases three or four times before I send them home, it's a courtesy to the other parents to tire out the kids.

And I know you're all very concerned, staying up at night, holding candlelight vigils to improve my recently failing health. And I'll ask you to continue your prayer groups as I'm still sorta down. I've been back at work and overall I feel ok, it's the ringing that still exists in my left audio canal, and a wonderful smoker's cough that won't go away, and has the ability to wake me up some nights. Now I haven't smoked in almost 30 years, so I don't feel that this cough is from excessive cancer stick use. But it is very annoying.

And now I've just finished giving an interview for an 8th grade girl who wanted to know about safety on social networking sites. It seems like her goal is to be able to get a MySpace account and is having to prove to her parents that it's not going to be a bad thing. I'm not an authority on this by any means, so hoepfully I'll help out her paper. In related and also uninteresting news, I got an email this morning from someone who had worked with my cousin asking me for help with Dreamweaver. I offered my services as a tutor and really wanted the cash that would have come with this session, but I only had two open days this week and he's gone each weekday night and doesn't want to do it the day before it's due. I'm not sure why he waited so long to start this project that he seems to need to finish so he can pass this class. The guy is, according to himself, "in his 50's and going back to get his Masters." So if he's going for his Masters degree, shouldn't he be a better student? Perhaps.
